I tried the Speakeasy test and my results were:
Download Speed: 1650 kbps (206.3KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 280 kbps (35 KB/sec transfer rate)
This was on cable( Cox high speed internet).

Just tested my mother-in-laws connection using Verizon DSL.
Download Speed: 2823 kbps (352.9KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 703 kbps (87.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
